Today Jen decided to allow us a sneak peak into where she lives and works. At the end, there will be candy.
This is Jen's home desk, where she seats herself in a mesh spinning chair she got for around $20 in a Goodwill. As you can see, her space can get pretty messy quite easily. Allow her to put her food down for more in-depth tour.
This is the left side of the desk, where she presents a mini desk fan for the approaching summer, and a wireless USB mouse for times when having the tablet connected isn't the best use of space for what she's working on. Right behind the fan and mouse is a particularly large ceramic jar she keeps her candy stash in. Amusingly enough, that was back from her senior year in high school, where the project was to "create an urn for yourself." Adorning it are two pairs of wrap-around headphones, a long green dragon, and Domo-kun. There used to be something on the top of the lid, but it broke off in the kiln. In a few pictures after this, she will show that this is indeed just a candy urn and swears that candy is all that will be in it. Behind the candy urn is an Ottlite with a built-in caddy she got from Michaels, marked down to $27 after some packaging damage to the box made it be labeled as a clearance item. Also, that little baggy in it has two blank iPhone 4 covers that she forgot to decorate.
Not being pictured here is the food mentioned having to be put down for this segment. But anyway, here is the right side of her desk area. Yes, she is quite aware that there is a mess on this side that does not exist in the other, but it will be cleaned off sooner or later. Pictured here, from front to back: the new flexible phone stand and webcam she has bought specifically for streaming traditional art or for broadcasting with the rest of the group on Tinychat; the juice bottle, which is part of dinner; an external hard drive to keep large files and the like off her laptop; a sample booklet of different papers from Catprint.com; an old Sanrio box with office supplies; a random assortment of office supplies, including a tape dispenser under the power button of the monitor; random box of eucalyptus oil (don't question it); an RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee [Destroy Mode] Gunpla for moral support; and her monitor, which is currently just showing iTunes. Also, a large whiteboard secured to the back of a large wooden cabinet with three large plastic bins on top of it (also not pictured). And yes, that is a Phanpy magnet.
Yes, she built Unicorn herself, and he now sits daintily on this part of the desk. Just look at that head-tilt. Jen hasn't switched his fist to an open hand part yet.
Did you notice things behind her laptop screen? Here's more stuff. The cup on the left has cutting tools for crafts and various marking supplies that are not pens. Except for probably two things in there. The second cup is actually full of various pens, four markers, and an unsharpened carpentry pencil. And next to that is a "500 Drawing Prompts" book right behind the coloring book, as well as a Copic air-brush system. Also, rations. Remember kids, always keep rations around you.
This is not in the desk area, but it is also a workspace. Jen just put an old IKEA tabletop on top of a long shoe rack and supported it against her couch hidden in the back. It's a decent sewing station, where she is able to sit down on a white IKEA stool (which was left in the living room) and get to work. Her current project here is a shark sleeping bag for her nephew. Her manga shelf is also visible here, but Beargguy-3 probably won't let you see it. Jen also keeps boxes of tea and other supplies on the shelf directly below. A set of drawers in the back carry most of Jen's fabrics and patterns. And given her height and the drawers' location, along with the table in the way, she has some difficulty reaching back there for things. Don't worry, that shall be resolved in the near future.
Lastly, Jen's candy urn does in fact contain only candy. There's nothing ominous about that, right? Maybe aside from its demand for sacrificial bags of assorted KitKats.
